Gams Giving Back

Kathy Calvert (‘79) traveled with a church mission team to India where they planted over 1,000 trees to be used in redevelopment of areas ravaged by the Tsunami. The team also delivered clothing and supplies to a doctor who alone serves 2,000 people around his village and witnessed the Tsunami Livelihood Project in fishing villages where women learn sewing skills, creating “Tsunamika” dolls to help support their family.

Kathy is also serving as chairperson of the Wichita District United Methodist Habitat Build. Over 25 churches have come together to sponsor and build their second Habitat home in Wichita and will also volunteer on another build for a relocated Katrina family.

We are proud and blessed to have sisters like Kathy!

It was a brief but beautiful ceremony.
We are glad to welcome you as new alumnae!

Happenings at the AGD House

This is the third year for women living in the Chapter House to be paying only for rent. We found that with the women's work schedule and class schedule it was next to impossible to please most of the women. Food was being thrown away so we lowered the cost of living in the house and the women purchase their own food and cook for themselves or eat at work or on the job. The alumnae chapter has served a Monday night meal before chapter meeting so the members and new members can eat one meal a week together. Funds for this have come from local alumnae, the AGD Alumnae Chapter and the Wichita Alumnae Club donations. If you would like to donate to the lavaliere project or the Monday Night Meals for the AGD's, please send your donations to Lynette Brazda Bickley. A team of alumnae, organized by Lynette, fix and serve the meals. The women express their appreciation to this weekly event.

Alpha Gams Hard at Work

The large bathroom was painted and the girls stenciled an  border. The computer room panels were painted red, buff and green by the women. The women want to make this a "girls only" TV room on the second floor. Numerous repairs have been made as well as we painted one bedroom
We hope to continue this project yearly this until all bedrooms have been repainted as well as repainting the front stairway and hall. Wireless internet is now available throughout the chapter house. A new side walk was also installed in front of the  house due to the city widening 8th Street. Come and see our new avenue!
